Stepping back from Social Media: a New Direction
Due to Meta's upcoming policy change, which will use data from Facebook and Instagram to train its AI tools, I'm stepping away from social media and starting an email newsletter. In Australia, users won't be able to opt-out, and data from as far back as 2007 will be used without consent, raising significant privacy concerns. By switching to an email newsletter, I can maintain control over my work and ensure it reaches my audience directly, without invasive data practices.
Personal struggles also drive this decision. I've battled imposter syndrome and depression for years, making it difficult to create new work that often feels out of reach. The pressure to produce unseen content has been overwhelming, and I crave more meaningful and tangible ways to express myself and share my work. I'm also tired of the endless, futile scrolling on social media in search of happiness only to feel more isolated and unsatisfied.
Transitioning to an email newsletter will help me cultivate deeper, more authentic connections and share my work more intimately and thoughtfully. This move is a step towards reclaiming my sense of purpose and creating a more fulfilling way to engage with the world.
